WWE appeared to be finally setting a plan in place for Intercontinental Champion Ricochet at WrestleMania 38 on last night’s episode of SmackDown.
On the show, both Angel and Humberto of Los Lotharios earned a shot at the Intercontinental Championship, which seemed to be set for WrestleMania 38.
WWE then announced that, rather than on the show of shows, the three-way would take place on next week’s (April 1) ‘WrestleMania SmackDown’ episode of SmackDown.
The Intercontinental Championship not being featured at WrestleMania 38 now means that, unbelievably, the title has gone one entire calendar year without being defended on pay-per-view.
The last Intercontinental Championship match on a WWE premium live event was Apollo Crews capturing the title from Big E at last year’s WrestleMania.
The Intercontinental Championship is not the only midcard title omitted from WrestleMania 38, as United States Champion Finn Balor was announced as part of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal for next week’s show.
