There has been some uncertainty regarding Bryan Danielson’s status for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door this weekend.
Following teases, Zack Sabre Jr explicitly challenged Danielson to a match during his post-match interview at NJPW Dominion.
The match hasn’t been officially announced for Forbidden Door as of writing, with Danielson himself last wrestling in the ‘Anarchy in the Arena’ bout at Double or Nothing on May 29.
Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Danielson wasn’t cleared to compete as of last Wednesday’s (June 15) AEW taping.
Pointing out that the match was teased on commentary during AEW Rampage, Meltzer said:
“They didn’t announce the match, but they certainly built it up. I can tell you that he was not cleared on Wednesday of last week, but they pushed very hard. (Rampage) was taped on Wednesday.
“Here’s the deal. He’s either going to be on the show this coming Wednesday, or I would go and say that it’s unlikely that they’ll have the match, although he has until the 26th to get cleared. When I watched the show on Friday, my impression was that that match is on the card because you would not be teasing that if you did not think it was, and I think if you thought, with all the disappointments and things like that, that it wasn’t going to be there, I would not have teased it.”
Meltzer noted that he had asked about Danielson, but hadn’t been given a yes or a no regarding his status for the AEW x NJPW crossover event.
NJPW’s representative in the AEW All Atlantic Championship fourway bout at the June 26 pay-per-view will be determined in a qualifying match on Tuesday’s New Japan Road show.
