WWE is in what you may call a contract crisis, with a number of stars reportedly keen on leaving the company as backstage morale continues to drop.
Luke Harper, Sin Cara, Mike Kanellis, The Revival and more have all expressed a desire to leave, and now one of WWE’s top female stars could be on her way out.
According to Dave Meltzer, current Women’s tag champion Kairi Sane is currently looking at potential options outside of WWE, although what those are he did not say.
Sane came to WWE from Japanese promotion Stardom in 2017, and was immediately booked to win the Mae Young Classic. She has since held the NXT Women’s Championship and is the current women’s tag champion alongside Asuka.
Speaking of Asuka, Meltzer is reporting that she at least seems to be very happy in WWE and in the US, and that he has heard nothing to suggest that she is looking to leave any time soon.
The report is that Sane’s contract will be expiring in early 2020, and as there has been no suggestion of her re-signing with WWE, she may well be the next to leave.
While she hasn’t been booked all that well on the main roster, Sane is undoubtedly one of the most talented wrestlers WWE has, male or female, and would be a huge loss.
We do of course have to bring AEW into this conversation, as other than a return to Japan, it would be the most logical place for Sane to go next, particularly as the promotion is looking to improve its women’s division.
We will keep you updated with any further news regarding Sane’s contract.
