Update On Mercedes Martinez Following Injury On NXT

An update on Mercedes Martinez’ status has been provided after she was knocked out on this week’s episode of NXT.

On Tuesday’s show, Boa and Xia Li teamed up to take on Mercedes Martinez and Jake Atlas. Xia Li hit Martinez with a kick to the head before Martinez fell to the mat head-first, seemingly legitimately knocked out.

It was reported that Martinez had been taken to hospital following the show. A new report has confirmed that Martinez did receive a concussion from the kick.

On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Martinez is said to be “okay” following the concussion. Pointing out the unpredictable nature of the injury, Meltzer said:

“Well, she’s out of the hospital, they did take her to the hospital and she did have a concussion. Look…concussions…we’re a day out. A concussion could mean she’s fine to wrestle next week or she might not be ready to wrestle for six months. You never know and you don’t know the day after so she’s fine in the sense of she’s fine, but how quick she’s going to heal, concussions are unpredictable.”

On the show, AEW talent Ricky Starks’ injury discussed. It was initially thought that Starks was fine, before it was revealed that he had suffered a fractured neck.

On Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, it was announced that Starks has been medically cleared to compete. He will challenge Brian Cage for the FTW Championship at Fyter Fest night one on July 14.
