Yesterday it was reported by Fightful that Mustafa Ali had been pulled from the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber due to injury and that a replacement would need to be found.
Dave Meltzer has now provided an update on the injury and Ali’s status in regards to the Chamber match.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer explained that Ali actually suffered a concussion at a WWE live event in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on Sunday.
According to Meltzer, a decision regarding Ali’s spot in the Elimination Chamber match will be made at tonight’s SmackDown Live taping. Doctors will assess the concussion and a decision will be made there and then.
He has apparently told officials and medics that he’s fine to work, but given WWE’s history with concussions, you can understand why they won’t just take his word for it.
If he isn’t cleared, a decision will need to be made regarding his replacement, and if we’re right in thinking it’ll be someone in the upper-midcard, it’ll be one of Andrade, Rey Mysterio, Rusev or Shinsuke Nakamura.
Mustafa Ali is set to take part in a 6-man gauntlet match tonight on SmackDown Live to decide who enters the Chamber last on Sunday, but his place may well have been taken by someone else by the time the show starts.
