An update has emerged on Mustafa Ali’s roster status, following his inclusion in the SmackDown World Cup.
On the November 11 edition of SmackDown, it was confirmed that Ali would be one of the eight competitors competing in the tournament.
SmackDown stars Santos Escobar, Braun Strowman, Jinder Mahal, Shinsuke Nakamura, Ricochet, Butch and Sami Zayn were also announced for the tournament.
This lead to speculation that Ali has been officially moved to the Blue Brand’s roster.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), Ali is still on the Raw roster, and is expected to wrestle on both Raw and SmackDown during his stint in the tournament.
it is unclear why WWE chose to include Ali in the SmackDown World Cup opposed to another member of the SmackDown roster.
Ali has commented on his inclusion in the tournament, taking to Instagram and Twitter to note:
“Incredible opportunity. proud to be American. proud to be Indian. and proud to be representing Pakistan in this tournament!”
On Friday’s show, Braun Strowman defeated Jinder Mahal to advance to the tournament semifinals.
Also advancing to the next round is Santos Escobar, who bested Shinsuke Nakamura in their first round bout.
Mustafa Ali will face Ricochet in first round action on the November 18 episode of SmackDown.
