Last week, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) started their 16-woman tournament to determine the next challenger to Hikaru Shida’s AEW World Women’s Championship.
The tournament kicked off on Dynamite last week, and continued last night with all of the first round matches from the Japanese side of the tournament being broadcast onto YouTube.
Dave Meltzer has revealed that the winner of the tournament will face Hikaru Shida at Revolution next month, meaning the winner of the Japanese and American sides of the tournament will have to wrestle beforehand.
Meltzer explained on Wrestling Observer Radio that the tournament final will likely take place on the go-home episode of Dynamite before Revolution on March 3, which is already set to feature the big tag match featuring Cody and Shaquille O’Neal:
“The winner gets a title shot at Hikaru Shida on the Revolution pay-per-view, so I guess that means the final will probably be on the Dynamite show with the Shaq match (March 3) more likely than not.”
