Update On If FOX Will Work With AEW After WWE Contract Ends

Update On If FOX Will Work With AEW After WWE Contract Ends

In October 2019, WWE began a very lucrative deal with FOX that saw the network become the new home for Friday Night SmackDown. On the network, SmackDown is now the most-watched wrestling show of the week.

Speaking on the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed whether or not FOX will look to work with AEW after their WWE deal comes to an end, noting that it is unlikely, but isn’t totally out of the question:

“I knew this was going to be asked, and it’s a really hard question to answer because in two years things could change – AEW could go down, AEW could go up, WWE could go down. I would not rule that out. I would say it’s a long shot, but in two years that may be the smart move anyway. There’s just no way of knowing, so today, I would lean towards no, but considering no-one’s talking today, they’d be talking in a couple of years, and in a couple of years whatever the numbers are will determine what move is made. If AEW’s numbers go way way up, absolutely. If AEW’s numbers go way down, of course not. If WWE’s numbers go way way up they may wanna keep them. If they go way way down, they won’t wanna keep them. If AEW’s numbers surpass WWE’s, and Fox can go in there and go ‘we can get a higher rating at a lower price’, why wouldn’t they get them? So I guess the best answer is: to be determined based on the state of both companies over the next two years. But today, I would say leaning towards no.”
