This week on NXT’s USA Network debut show, Lio Rush made his long-awaited in-ring return. Rush defeated Oney Lorcan to become number one contender to the Cruiserweight Championship.
This was the first match Rush had wrestled on TV since the March 18th episode of Raw where he and Bobby Lashley were defeated by Braun Strowman and Finn Balor.
Rush was removed from TV due to reports of backstage heat that stemmed from an incident backstage with former Universal Champion Finn Balor.
When these reports emerged, it was believed that there were talks ongoing backstage within WWE about moving Rush back to NXT.
This certainly makes sense, as PWInsider is reporting that Triple H has wanted to bring the impressive cruiserweight back to NXT since May of this year.
The report claims that WWE and NXT higher-ups previously weren’t sure about how to bring Rush back into NXT, but felt that the debut episode on the USA Network would be the perfect time.
