Update On Reason For Rhea Ripley Losing NXT Championship

Update On Reason For Rhea Ripley Losing NXT Championship

Earlier today, it was reported that Rhea Ripley lost the NXT Championship because her working Visa expired. This was originally reported by Mike Johnson at PWInsinder.

However, another major wrestling news source, Dave Meltzer is now reporting this is not the case at all. Meltzer claimed on Monday that Flair won as a way to help boost ratings for NXT.

With the Visa news today, Meltzer reached out to his sources to find out if this was the case.  His sources claim this is not true at all.

Meltzer had the following to say on the Wrestling Observer Forum:

“I’m double checking on this but one person high up just denied that to me. Again, I’m not saying Mike is wrong, in this company the left and right hand rarely know what the other is doing. But the person I checked with would know the creative reason given which was Charlotte to NXT for ratings help.”

He also posted the following:

“Another person high up said inaccurate and she’s in Orlando right now. Clearly, if she isn’t although supposedly that was just checked, people who need to know don’t know.”

At this point, we may not know until WWE tapes another episode of NXT. If Ripley’s on the show, then she clearly has a Visa and is able to appear on television. If not, there may be another reason they are keeping her off tv.

Either way, while Charlotte Flair is certainly a great wrestler, it’s a shame Ripley’s title reign ended so abruptly. Flair hasn’t really moved the need thus far for NXT and Ripley has the potential to be a major star.

Sometimes the short term gain isn’t worth the long term loss.  Stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com for more on this story.
