Wade Barrett made his first WWE appearance in four years last week on NXT. The former Intercontinental Champion served as one of NXT’s commentators last week as Mauro Ranallo was home dealing with a family situation. Now, we have an update on Barrett’s position with the company.
As reported by PWInsider, Barrett and WWE are currently working towards a full-time return to the company as an announcer. It was reported last week that his appearance would be a one-off, however, clearly things have changed since then. This new deal would explicitly see Barrett return as an announcer and not as a wrestler.
The report also states that interest in having Barrett announce for WWE existed earlier this year. Barrett had worked for NWA as an announcer as well. Now, there is also talk of having him slide into the role of announcer for NXT UK. The NXT UK brand is said to be starting up soon, as well.
Barrett left WWE back in 2016 following a run with the forgettable League of Nations. The group split up after WrestleMania 32 and Barrett made his last appearance with the company.
