There’s a new update on who WWE pitched to Steve Austin to be his opponent for a big money match at WrestleMania 39.
Fightful Select originally reported a couple of days ago that Roman Reigns had been pitched to Austin, but Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer quickly said that wasn’t the case.
Meltzer in fact specifically said that a match with Reigns had not been pitched to Austin, but a match with Brock Lesnar had been.
Well, Meltzer has now seemingly corrected the first part of his response, as he’s tweeted:
“Both were pitched. Austin vs. Lesnar was the original pitch.”
It’s worth pointing out that Fightful’s report of the Austin vs Reigns pitch did also state: “…another source indicated that another ‘big name’ was offered to Austin in the months prior”.
The other thing that Meltzer said was that a Lesnar vs Austin match is “not on”, but he obviously didn’t comment on whether a Reigns vs Austin match is going ahead because he didn’t realise it’d been pitched until his correction.
Fightful also stated people in WWE they’d spoken to had claimed they hadn’t heard back from Austin about the Reigns pitch.
