A new update has emerged on William Regal, amid speculation about a WWE return under the Triple H regime.
Following Regal being written off AEW TV on the November 30 episode of Dynamite, reports indicated that ‘all signs’ are pointing towards Regal back in WWE.
It was also reported that Regal’s AEW contract expires this month, fueling speculation that he’ll be back with WWE sooner rather than later.
PWInsider now reports that Regal is now finalising his new deal with WWE, and is expected to return to the company in the new year.
It was also reported that Regal is returning to WWE in a backstage role.
The fact that Regal is finalising a deal with WWE indicates that his AEW contract has already expired as he’s able to have contract talks with other parties, however this has not been confirmed.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), an AEW source has noted that Regal is now ‘done’ with AEW.
Regal was released under the Vince McMahon WWE regime in January, after over 20 years with the company.
He made his AEW debut in March at the Revolution pay-per-view, forcing Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley to shake hands, marking the formation of the Blackpool Combat Club faction.
The wrestling veteran turned on Jon Moxley at Full Gear, handing MJF brass knuckles during the main event of the show, allowing MJF to pin Moxley for the AEW World Championship.
MJF attacked Regal on the November 30 edition of Dynamite, which will likely be Regal’s final appearance for the company.
We will continue to provide updates on the situation as they become available.
