Update On WWE Concern Over Kevin Owens

Update On WWE Concern Over Kevin Owens WWE

An update has emerged on a feared injury to current WWE Tag Team Champion Kevin Owens coming out of house shows this past weekend.

Owens was in action in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Saturday (April 22), where he and Sami Zayn worked a match against the Usos.

Addressing that match in Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Daily Update, Dave Meltzer wrote:

Kevin Owens appeared to injure his ankle last night in Fort Wayne, IN. It came during an Owens & Sami Zayn vs. Usos tag team title match.

We’re not sure where but multiple people brought up that it was hurt during the match, he was limping and needed help to the back.

He did come back, still limping, for the Cody Rhodes vs Solo Sikoa main event.

We’ve heard nothing official on whether it was storyline or legit at this point. We’ll probably know if it’s serious based on if he works in Toledo tonight.

Following up on this, Meltzer spoke on Sunday night’s Wrestling Observer Radio after the show in Toledo, saying:

“He worked tonight in Toledo, so he’s okay. He hurt it last night in Fort Wayne, but he’s okay.

“Like I said, he wrestled tonight, he did a run-in tonight, so good enough (for that). And he was not limping at the show tonight as far as I know.

“So he’s good to go probably for Friday’s tag team title match on SmackDown.”

On this coming Friday’s April 28 episode of SmackDown, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will defend the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship against the Usos in a rematch from WrestleMania.

There are a gonna be a lot of eyes on that match with uncertainty surrounding the upcoming Night of Champions event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

In previous iterations of the event, the USP of Night of Champions is that every title in WWE is defended on the show, but with it being in Saudi Arabia, Owens and Zayn won’t be travelling.

That means something has to give – either that stipulation of every title being defended won’t be upheld, or, there’ll have to be a title change, which could come on Friday.

Friday’s SmackDown is also the first night of the WWE Draft which will carry over to next week’s Raw.
