The latest update has emerged on WWE’s potential plans for an eventual match between Brock Lesnar and GUNTHER.
It’s been reported that, at one point, the match was penciled in for WrestleMania 39, but WWE quickly decided against doing it.
Despite that decision, they still had a big face-off in the Royal Rumble match in January, which seemed to suggest it’s still on WWE’s mind to do it at some point.
Sports Illustrated‘s Justin Barrasso has provided the latest insight into the possibility of the match taking place.
According to the SI report, the belief internally in WWE is that GUNTHER still needs another year to be established as a top name on the roster before he’s ready for a showcase match with Lesnar.
GUNTHER has been on the WWE main roster since April 2022, so still under a year, but has remained undefeated in singles matches during that time and has reigned as Intercontinental Champion since June.
Instead of a match with Lesnar at Mania, GUNTHER will be defending said Intercontinental Championship against Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, or most likely, both of them in a three-way match.
GUNTHER has spoken in numerous interviews about the possibility of a match with Brock Lesnar and has definitely been in favor of it happening at some point.
