Vince McMahon Blames Creative, Lack Of Fans For Ratings Drop

WWE held their quarterly earnings call yesterday and we got some answers from Vince McMahon. WWE’s ratings have been in a freefall and if we’re being honest it has been going on much longer than this pandemic.

McMahon was asked about the decline in ratings and pointed the finger at the lack of fans and creative. Here is the quote from McMahon, via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

“As far as ratings are concerned, again, more than any other sport, surely, our audience is a part of the program. It’s audience interaction that always is the plus, and again, it goes all the way back to the origination of the genre in terms of the game. So the audience is integral to our success and our television ratings, again, because of the interaction and lack thereof.

Notwithstanding that, I think that we can have more compelling characters, better storylines, new characters coming in to where we are right now and more of content that’s not necessarily in the ring, but yet one that focuses on their personalities and their story outside of the ring.”

It is worth noting one of Paul Heyman’s directives was to push new characters and he was fired. When asked about why Heyman was removed from his position, McMahon did not give an answer.
