Vince McMahon Changes To WWE WrestleMania 39 Creative Confirmed

Vince McMahon Changes To WWE WrestleMania 39 Creative Confirmed WWE

Changes that Vince McMahon made to the creative for the WWE WrestleMania 39 main event following his return in 2023 have now been confirmed.

Since WWE’s sale to Endeavor and the creation of TKO, a shareholder lawsuit was filed against WWE and TKO in regards to the sale, in which plaintiffs allege McMahon violated his fiduciary duties by orchestrating a sale process designed to preserve his own power rather than maximize the best deal for shareholders.

In an update on the lawsuit and sale today by Brandon Thurston of POST Wrestling, new text messages have detailed the sale between WWE and Endeavor, with TKO President Mark Shapiro detailing that McMahon was always set to return following his initial retirement in 2022 to orchestrate a sale to Endeavor.

McMahon did indeed return to the company in January 2023, with him announcing the sale to Endeavor in April, the night after WrestleMania 39.

In the months following McMahon’s return to the company, rumours had emerged following a report by Fightful Select that McMahon had also been back involved in the creative of the show, specifically ahead of WrestleMania 39.

In the article shared by POST Wrestling today, it is now confirmed that McMahon had a hand in creative in the company following his return, specifically in regards to a change to the Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns Universal Championship main event.

The texts between McMahon and Nick Khan, detailing a conversation McMahon had with Paul Levesque and Bruce Prichard, read:

Vince: Text from me to Paul and Bruce: “Hey guys just double checking. Does Roman [Reigns] and Cody [Rhodes] know the new creative re [WrestleMania] and next year ?”

Bruce : “Not to my knowledge. I don’t know if Paul has had a conversation with either. Roman’s first appearance since we spoke is Friday in DC. Both will be there in person.”

Me to Paul: “ Paul have U “?

Khan: “Langis.”

McMahon: “What in the blue hell is ‘Langis’ lol”

Khan: “Read it backwards!”

It was not noted in the filing whether the finish that we saw on the show, which saw Roman Reigns retain the title over Cody Rhodes in a decision that surprised many viewers, was the change McMahon was referring to.

It had also been reported that the finish to the Edge vs. Finn Balor Hell In A Cell match on the same show was also changed by McMahon, with Edge ultimately going over Balor.
