If you’ve been reading any of the stories on Vince McMahon’s answers today or have watched him for any significant portion of time, then you probably know he isn’t someone often at a loss for words.
He gave a long list of reasons why ratings were falling and why NXT and AEW were seeing the same kind of decline during the pandemic that Raw is.
However, one question from someone during today’s media call got a very short answer from Vince. A reporter asked Vince about Paul Heyman’s firing.
Vince simply replied:
“As far as Paul Heyman’s concerned, he did a very good job in terms of creativity.”
Hmm. Well, all right. Apparently, that isn’t one of Vince’s big requirements.
Paul Heyman was said to be a big fan of pushing young stars and trying to create new reasons for fans to watch the show. Vince was asked if Heyman being let go would mean a change in strategy.
Vince replied:
“As far as continuing on, acting on what’s new and building and characters, you always have to build new characters. Constantly.”
Let’s see, over the last few weeks on Raw, we’ve seen some pretty big pushes of up-and-coming young stars like Randy Orton, Big Show, MVP, Christian, and Rey Mysterio.
I think fans just keep waiting for the day where Vince finally admits when things are looking bad in terms of ratings that he’s too blame and that he’s lost touch with what fans want.
Unfortunately, as long as WWE can keep turning record profits, then it will never, ever happen.
