When WWE introduced Maxxine Dupri (Sofia Cromwell) into the Maximum Male Models stable, there was no sign of Max Dupri in the segment, or in the graphic for the advertised segment the following week.
It was then reported that McMahon had decided that Dupri wouldn’t be continuing forward in role due to ‘rubbing people the wrong way’ and challenging scripts that were written for him.
Dave Meltzer provided an update in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, noting that Vince McMahon blamed one of the early segments being bad on Dupri’s delivery of the lines.
He said:
Max Dupri is out but the angle with Maximum Male Models is continuing using Sydney Zmrzel, who was Sofia Crawford in NXT, as Maxxine Dupri. Max being gone was a Vince call made after one of the early segments of the deal when Vince blamed the segment being bad on his delivery of the lines and apparently he also spoke up about some of the scripting. With Vince out, he may resurface if he has supporters with whoever ends up in charge but the idea was that he’s out of this angle. The segment was bad even though he actually has a great delivery.
It is unknown if the decision to remove Max Dupri from the act will be reversed now that Vince McMahon is out of the company, but it was also noted that the ‘best thing’ for the former LA Knight was McMahon’s retirement.
