Update On Vince McMahon Netflix Documentary Two Years In The Making WWE

An update has emerged on the multi-part Netflix documentary on former WWE CEO and Head of Creative, Vince McMahon.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported the following:

“What we know about the Netflix documentary on Vince McMahon is that it has been worked on for two years, and Vince himself made it clear that he didn’t want a puff piece on him, saying that would be boring.

“It was scheduled to be a four-part series of one hour shows but as you can imagine with two years of work on such a project that it would be hard to cut it to that length so we’ll see. But there’s no word on when it will be released.”

The Netflix documentary has been in production for two years and therefore predates Vince McMahon’s retirement on July 22, 2022.

The retirement came after a tumultuous few months for WWE and McMahon after The Wall Street Journal broke a story alleging a hush-money scandal.

Following this, both Vince McMahon and former Head of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis, stepped down.

Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan were named WWE’s new co-CEOs with Stephanie as Chairwoman, while Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque heads over creative as Chief Content Officer.

As previously reported, VICE has also produced an upcoming documentary on the former WWE CEO titled ‘The Nine Lives of Vince McMahon.’

Unlike the Netflix docu-series, the VICE documentary was made without the involvement of WWE and will explore the allegations and the resulting fallout from when the story broke.

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer were both interviewed for the VICE film.

The air date was originally slated for October 18 but this was later revised, according to Meltzer, due to AEW and NXT shows airing on the same date.

The final release date for the Netflix documentary is therefore unconfirmed, and it remains to be seen if, and how, they will address the events preceding McMahon’s retirement.
