It was reported yesterday by reliable Twitter source WrestleVotes that WWE and the USA network were considering moving NXT off of Wednesday nights.
The last few shows haven’t gone head-to-head with AEW Dynamite, and have subsequently seen a pretty big increase in viewership. This is said to have gotten WWE and USA thinking.
According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Vince McMahon was actually pitched moving NXT to a different night several months ago, but turned down the move because of AEW:
“I know that a couple of months ago there was a meeting with Vince to discuss this very issue, and at the meeting I mean it was like ‘move to another day we’ll have better viewership and a bigger audience.’ On that day it was shut down for all the obvious reasons that, you know, what was it put on TV in the first place for?”
Dave went on to explain that NXT was put on Wednesday nights to try and drive AEW out of business. However, AEW is thriving so that doesn’t seem to have worked.
The idea of Vince being pitched the idea several months ago has also been reported by Fightful Select, which you can read about by clicking here.
