Vince McMahon Thought Two Unrelated WWE Stars Were Brothers

According to former WWE star Bryan Myers, who was known as Curt Hawkins during his spells with WWE, Vince McMahon thought he and Matt Cardona (formerly Zack Ryder) were brothers when they first debuted.

After joining WWE, the two were presented as brothers, going by Brian Majors (Myers) and Brett Majors (Cardona).

They went on to have a run as a part of Edge’s “La Familia” stable, and that’s when Vince found out they weren’t actually brothers, and forced them to change their names.

Speaking to K&S WrestleFest, Myers said:

“We wanted to just join Edge and then what I’ve been told that I didn’t realize at the time is that Vince [McMahon] thought we were shoot brothers and then when it all came up that we already joined Edge, he goes, ‘What? They’re not brothers?’ Like that’s f**king stupid and that’s when he said come up with new names and we came up with Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder. So that was never part of our plan. It just kind of fell into our lap.”

Both Hawkins and Ryder spent many years with WWE, but were both released by the company in 2020. Myers has spent most of his time since in Impact Wrestling, whereas Cardona has made appearances in AEW, and has made a name for himself in hardcore matches for GCW.
