A former WWE employee has recalled Vince McMahon poking fun at Dave Meltzer when reacting to a pitch from a writing team.
Melter famously shares star ratings for matches through the Wrestling Observer, 5+ star bout generally being a contest that has been viewed as a classic.
Speaking on Cheap Heat Productions Podcast ex-WWE magazine writer Brian Solomon recalled Vince McMahon referencing Meltzer when reacting to their pitch for an article counting down the greatest steel cage matches ever:
“We wanted to do the greatest steel cage matches ever, and he goes, ‘Boy, you guys really need to take your heads out of Dave Meltzer’s ass.’ I’m terrified, of course, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. I’m like 30 years old, whatever it is, I’m just trying to feed my kids, and this crazy billionaire and his whims.
“There would be other times when he’d be totally agreeable and nice and warm, talk to me about his family, his kids, his father, tell me these stories about when he was a kid and the things that he saw.”
McMahon stepped away from his positions as WWE CEO and Chairman last month, in the midst of ‘hush pact’ allegations that you can read full details on at this link.
He was shown in the crowd during UFC 276, with Triple H, Pat McAfee and interim CEO and Chairwoman Stephanie McMahon.
