An update has emerged on Von Wagner’s recent appearance on WWE SmackDown, and the reason why he hasn’t returned since.
During the November 12 show, Von Wagner featured in a backstage segment with Adam Pearce and Sami Zayn. Nobody mentioned Wagner by name on the show.
Since then, Wagner’s SmackDown appearance hasn’t been referenced on WWE TV, outside of a throwaway line from Kyle O’Reilly last month.
Ringside News – which has had several backstage reports confirmed by the likes of Fightful and Dave Meltzer in recent times – reports that a tenured member of WWE Creative told him that Vince McMahon decided that he didn’t like the angle, so it was dropped.
It had previously been reported that Wagner’s original appearance happened because McMahon thought Pearce needed a bodyguard.
Since then, Wagner has turned heel, defeating his former tag team partner, Kyle O’Reilly, in a steel cage match on the December 7 edition of NXT 2.0. This was O’Reilly’s final appearance for the company.
Wagner last wrestled on the December 21 episode of NXT, losing to Edris Enofe in singles action.
