A new update has emerged on the WWE status of announcer Wade Barrett during his current break from the company.
Barrett confirmed on September 6 that WWE had given him a couple of weeks off that he had requested nine months ago.
Since then, there has been a lot of changing of the announce teams for Raw and SmackDown, with Pat McAfee on hiatus, Joe Tessitore unavailable on Fridays due to college football, and Corey Graves calling Worlds Collide on the same night as SmackDown.
However, according to the latest update, it looks like Wade Barrett is due to return imminently.
As reported by PWInsider Elite, Barrett is listed internally to be part of the broadcast team for “this weekend in Indianapolis”, seemingly referring to Wrestlepalooza on Saturday, as SmackDown is in Toledo on Friday.
The report didn’t specify exactly what position Barrett would have on the broadcast team for the PLE in terms of whether he’d be on commentary or potentially just part of the panel for the pre-show, or any other potential role.
Pat McAfee is set to return at Wrestlepalooza as well, although it hasn’t been confirmed in what capacity.
