Wardlow Says AEW World Championship Is ‘In Shambles’ AEW

When CM Punk captured the AEW World Championship back at Double or Nothing, we all believed us to be on the path to the third ‘Summer of Punk’.

In reality, Punk injured himself back in June, breaking his foot during a jump into the crowd on the show following the event, with him being forced to get surgery, and an interim AEW World Champion being crowned.

Moxley became the interim champion, before Punk returned at AEW Quake by the Lake. Moxley and Punk faced off in the championship Unification match two weeks later, with Moxley squashing Punk to take the titles.

Then, 11 days later, Punk recaptured the championship at All Out, before the title was vacated 3 days later due to the fallout of the AEW All Out media scrum backstage fight.

The vacant title was then put on the line in a tournament, with Moxley winning to become the first-ever three time AEW Champion.

TNT Champion Wardlow recently spoke to the Dynamite Download podcast, where he discussed the World Championship situation, claiming that the title is currently ‘in shambles’, and it wouldn’t be if he was given the ball.

He said:

“The state of the Heavyweight Title has been in shambles for months. And the only thing I’ll say about it, is if Wardlow was the AEW World Heavyweight Champion, he would still be the [laughs] AEW World Heavyweight Champion. It would have been the Summer of Wardlow, and it would have been the Fall of Warldow. And it would have been the Winter of Wardlow. And it would have been the Spring of Wardlow. And it would have been the f**king summer again. Like, I ain’t f**king going nowhere. Everybody wants to hot potato that sumbitch; hand it to me, watch me take off.”

Wardlow won the TNT Championship shortly after his victory over MJF, recently teaming with Samoa Joe to defeat Josh Woods and Tony Nese on AEW Rampage Grand Slam.
