Last night during the Casino Battle Royale, Matt Sydal (formerly Evan Bourne in WWE) made his debut for the promotion as the special 21st joker entrant. The match was ultimately won by Lance Archer.
Sydal had a pretty good showing in the match, eliminating two people in the match and lasted right up until the final three with Eddie Kingston and the aforementioned former NJPW star Lance Archer.
Unfortunately, fans weren’t talking about how cool it was to see Sydal in AEW after his debut, but rather a rather scary botch that took place pretty much immediately as he tried to enter the ring during the match.
As you can see in the video below, Matt Sydal slipped off the top rope while trying to hit his signature Shotting Star Press, a move he has probably successfully hit thousands of times now. You can also check out the botch by clicking this link.

Nothing has been reported with regards to an injury for Matt Sydal, so it thankfully looks like this was just a scary botch as opposed to the moment where the former WWE star suffered a nasty injury.
With regards to what the future holds for Matt Sydal in AEW, it is not clear whether this was a one-off for the former WWE Tag Team Champion or if he has signed for AEW. For the latest on that, make sure you stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com.
