‘We Are Insulting The Audience’s Intelligence’: Tye Dillinger To Vince McMahon Before WWE Exit

Shawn Spears (formerly WWE’s Tye Dillinger) left the company in February 2019 after being granted his release.

Since then, the former NXT star has revealed that he is opening a wrestling school with Tyler Breeze, and debuted for All Elite Wrestling in the Casino Battle Royale at Double or Nothing.

Yesterday it was revealed that Spears has signed a full-time deal with AEW. The news came the same day as an interview between Spears and Chris Van Vliet was released.

When asked why he chose AEW over staying with WWE, and what he thought the differences between the two companies were, Spears had the following to say:

“Credibility. One of the last conversations I had with Vince, I went into his office…I needed to say what I needed to say. The biggest difference between both companies is credibility. Talent needs credibility. They don’t necessarily need pushes…but talent does need credibility.”

“The Perfect 10” went into more detail about his issues with WWE, and revealed what he somewhat shockingly told Vince McMahon during one of their final meetings:

“If you’re watching the product and two guys come out and you’re already able to tell the finish of the match based on entrances alone, that’s a problem. Because now we’re giving an audience the opportunity to change the channel, we’re giving them the opportunity to [text] on their phone…they don’t care. They’re not invested. And that’s what I said to the chairman. I said, ‘with all due respect, I think we’re insulting their intelligence.’ He just kinda looked at me and said, ‘oh sh*t,’ But I still stand by that sentiment today.”

You can’t help but agree with Shawn Spears here, and it is nice to see that fans and performers are in agreeance about some of the issues within the company.
