Retired WWE Star Says Controversial Hall Of Famer ‘Made The Business Look Bad’ WWE

Retired wrestler and former  WWE (then WWF) Women’s champion Wendi Richter has discussed some details of her relationship with her trainer, The Fabulous Moolah.

Richter trained at The Fabulous Moolah’s Lillian Ellison School of Professional Wrestling in the late 70s and early 80s.

She signed with the WWF in 1983 and would go on to defeat her trainer for the Women’s championship at MTV’s The Brawl To End It All.

Speaking on the Busted Open podcast, Wendi Richter described her experience with the controversial trainer and wrestler.

The Fabulous Moolah’s last match was in 2004 at the age of 81.

Richter said:

“She (Moolah) should have retired way before that. She made the business look bad because she looked bad. Nobody that age should be wrestling, and she really didn’t wrestle. She gouged eyes, kicked people in the chest.”

Richter had a long-running feud with The Fabulous Moolah during the ‘Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Connection’ era where music and wrestling met in the ring with musical artist Cyndi Lauper making many appearances.

Richter was also involved in what has been deemed the ‘Original Screwjob’ in 1985. The match-up saw Wendi Richter defend her title against a masked opponent known as the Spider.

Despite kicking out, the referee called the match after a swift three-count in the Spider’s favour. The opponent was revealed to be none other than The Fabulous Moolah.

Richter did not recall her matches with Moolah fondly, claiming that she “tried to hurt people” and “make me look bad.”

The former champion described one incident that occurred after Moolah put her in the Boston Crab submission, recalling:

“She tried to break my back. Not pin my shoulders or a submission. She didn’t even try to do that. She flipped back, and my back snapped like firecrackers going off. I was afraid I’d be paralyzed from the neck down and nothing would have pleased her more than that.”

The Fabulous Moolah was the subject of a 2019 episode of the Dark Side of The Ring which Wendi Richter contributed to.

Richter was last seen in WWE in 2012 in an episode of Raw building up to the 1000th episode where she appeared alongside Roddy Piper and Cyndi Lauper.
