Wheeler Yuta had several big performances in AEW this year, beginning with his famous clash with Jon Moxley in AEW Rampage which led to him aligning with Moxley, William Regal and Bryan Danielson in the Blackpool Combat Club.
Yuta’s in-ring ability led to him capturing the ROH Pure Championship back at Supercard of Honor XV from Josh Woods back in April, before losing it to Daniel Garcia in the main event of AEW Dynamite last month.
While Yuta’s in-ring ability can’t be denied, many have pointed to his promo ability as a weakness of his. Wheeler recently took part in two promo battles against MJF, and Yuta was able to put to use advice that he was given by William Regal during the segments.
Yuta spoke on Busted Open Radio, where he spoke about being ‘thrown in the deep end’ in a promo battle against MJF, who many believe to be one of, if not the, best promos in the company. Yuta spoke about the advice he got from Regal.
He said:
“I think the one that really stuck out to me was one from [William] Regal, where he said you have to just kind of believe more in what you’re saying. Like the first week in New York… he said I hung with him, I delivered my lines, and I tried to do the best that I could, but it wasn’t fully me.”
MJF defeated Yuta in their match to open up the anniversary episode of AEW Dynamite on October 5, as he continues to tease the cash-in of his poker chip he won at All Out.
