More details have emerged on Brock Lesnar returning to Friday’s (July 22) SmackDown taping.
It was previously reported that following Vince McMahon announcing his retirement, Lesnar left the TD Garden in Boston ahead of the live SmackDown broadcast.
Lesnar ultimately returned, appearing in the final segment of the show, dropping Theory with an F5.
Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Lesnar was back in the building by 8:30pm ET, following the show starting at 8pm.
Comparing the situation with MJF’s Double or Nothing appearance, Meltzer said:
“It was definitely interesting, I know he was back in the building by 8:30pm as far as the timeline goes. It wasn’t that he was hidden away, it wasn’t like he came back like (MJF at Double or Nothing) where you do the work and nobody knows you’re back.
“It wasn’t like it was supposed to be some guarded secret… I mean I shouldn’t say (it wasn’t a guarded secret) because it probably was supposed to be a secret, but he didn’t show up at 9:45 to go out there at 9:50 put it that way.”

Fightful Select (subscription required) had reported that that they were told ‘things blew over, and Lesnar returned’ with one source admitting that there was legitimate uncertainty surrounding Lesnar’s status for the show.
Lesnar is slated to challenge for Roman Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam on July 30. Check out the announced lineup for the event at this link.
