Vince McMahon is not only a former ECW Champion, but the WWE Chairman has also held the WWE Championship and won the prestigious Royal Rumble match.
Speaking on to SK Wrestling, Vince Russo has revealed that the decision was made to have Vince McMahon win the Royal Rumble match in 1999 by around Survivor Series time the year prior:
“There really wasn’t, bro [any other contenders]. I mean, that was such a big moment. We knew. We probably knew that, bro, I would say at the Survivor Series. 100 percent we knew Vince was going over at the Royal Rumble.”
Despite winning the 1999 Royal Rumble, Vince McMahon didn’t go on to challenge for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XV. Stone Cold Steve Austin beat Vince McMahon at St Valentine’s Day Massacre the following month to earn the title match.
