Tonight (September 1) marks the official end of the NXT UK brand which began back in 2017, as the final episode of the show aired tonight on the WWE Network and Peacock.
The show saw a rather fitting main event, when Tyler Bate took on Trent Seven in a bitter rivalry match to crown the new NXT UK Champion, after previous champion Ilja Dragunov had vacated the title due to injury.
The show was taped a few months back, and thankfully WWE have done an incredible job of making sure the result of the match was not publicly known going into tonight’s show, as that would have been rather silly of them.
Anyway, it was Tyler Bate who overcame the odds, defeating his former friend and mentor to become the first and only ever two-time NXT UK Champion, a moment that will have surprised a lot of people.
Bate will now move on to face off against NXT Champion Bron Breakker at the Worlds Collide show this Sunday, which is set to be the final event featuring NXT UK stars.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a few weeks worth on NXT 2.0 to catch up with. I hear that Bate was on the show, so I am interested to see how they handled him not yet winning the title on NXT UK television.
