On WrestleMania 38 Saturday, Royal Rumble winner Ronda Rousey challenged for Charlotte Flair’s SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Rousey ultimately came up short, getting pinned after receiving a big boot, while trying to wake the official, who was unable to call a submission.
This marked Rousey’s first one-on-one loss of her pro-wrestling career.
Per the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the current plan is for Flair and Rousey to have a long-term program with one another, following the event, with Dave Meltzer writing:
“Charlotte Flair beat Ronda Rousey to keep the Smackdown title after a ref bump. The idea is for this to be a long-term program and thus the belief was Flair had to win the first match, even if Flair got the better of Rousey as well in the angles leading up to it.”
On WWE.com, both Rousey and Flair are advertised for WrestleMania Backlash in May, and Money in the Bank in July. Flair is also listed for Hell in a Cell in June.
