Here’s Why Jon Moxley Received Bye In AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator Series AEW

AEW President Tony Khan has explained why Jon Moxley received a bye in the AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator Series.

The journey to determining an interim World Champion begins on Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite with a battle royal. The winner of the battle royal will face Jon Moxley later in the show, with the victor of that match earning his place in the AEW Interim World Title main event of Forbidden Door on June 26.

A recent statement from AEW pointed out that Moxley is currently the #1 ranked singles wrestler in the company, excluding champions.

Tony Khan has added to this, noting that Mox is undefeated in singles bouts on TV and pay-per-view for 2022.

Khan explained that Moxley is currently ranked higher that Anthony Ogogo because of the quality of his opponents.

When a fan asked why Wardlow didn’t receive the bye, despite having more singles victories in 2022 than Moxley, Khan noted that Warlow isn’t undefeated in 2022 singles competition.

A second AEW Interim World Title challenger will be decided at NJPW Dominion, with either Hiroshi Tanahashi or Hirooki Goto set to face either Jon Moxley or the battle royal winner for the gold at Forbidden Door.
