The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships will be defended at WrestleMania 36. Asuka and Kairi Sane will put their titles on the line against Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss inside the WWE Performance Center.
This will be the first time Sane will appear on WWE TV since March 9. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Sane has been in Japan since then. Here is the full quote, courtesy of Cultaholic:
“Kairi Sane has been in Japan. She got married. And then I don’t know if she had to be quarantined or something but she was unavailable for most of these tapings. So, she was okay for WrestleMania but she wasn’t available until like the very end so that’s why this whole promotion the last couple of weeks has been all Asuka, no Kairi Sane.”
As is the case with most of the WrestleMania card, there has been very little build for this match. This will be the first time the titles will be defended since TLC 2019. At that show, Sane and Asuka defended the titles against Becky Lynch and Charlotte in a TLC match. Sane suffered a concussion in that match and was kept out of the ring for a while afterward.
