One of the most unique moments of last night’s Raw was when Keith Lee broke the top rope. This has not been something that WWE has done often and fans made a pretty big deal of it on social media.
Now, we know why WWE made the decision to break the top rope on a live show. As noted by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the move was done as a unique way to send Raw to a commercial break. WWE has often felt that something spectacular needs to happen before the commercial break. Why this was chosen instead of a usual high spot remains to be seen but creativity is always welcome.

The spot took place during a tag team match with Sheamus and Keith Lee taking on The Miz and John Morrison. After the commercial break, Lee and Sheamus were able to get the win, defeating Miz and Morrison in approximately 13 minutes.
Usually when parts of the ring break it is because of one or more superheavyweights given each other a superplex, rather than the ropes breaking. However, perhaps we will see more ideas like this used in WWE in the near future.
