Returning from injury, Will Ospreay made a surprise appearance during the August 14 NJPW Resurgence event.
In May, Will Ospreay was forced to vacate the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship after suffering a neck and back injury. On last night’s show, Ospreay revealed that he has been cleared to return to action.
The British star teased announcing himself for the upcoming G1 Climax tournament, before saying that he will not take part. Addressing his frustrations with NJPW, Ospreay pointed out that he was promptly stripped of his IWGP gold, where Moxley didn’t defend the promotion’s US title for months at one point.
Calling himself the real IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, Ospreay pulled out his own version of the title and called Shingo Takagi an interim titleholder. The “real” champion noted that he’s going to make NJPW STRONG his home for a while, facing LA Dojo talent.
Recapping Ospreay’s declarations, NJPW tweeted:
Will Ospreay declares:
-himself medically cleared
–@Takagi__Shingo an 'interim' champion
-himself 'the real IWGP World Heavyweight Champion'
-himself OUT of G1 Climax 31
–#njpwSTRONG his new home
-war on the LA DojoAnything else?

Ospreay last wrestled at Wrestling Dontaku on May 4, defeating Takagi to retain his title. Takagi pinned Kazuchika Okada to win the vacant championship at Dominion in June.
