Will Ospreay Teases Kenny Omega Match Ahead Of Forbidden Door NJPW/AEW

NJPW star Will Ospreay has teased a match with Kenny Omega ahead of the upcoming NJPW x AEW Forbidden Door event.

Top names from both NJPW and AEW will be in action on June 26 at the United Center in Chicago.

Ospreay is currently preparing for his match against Hiroshi Tanahashi for the vacant IWGP US Championship this Sunday at Wrestling Dontaku.

Prepared to become the ‘Ultimate Grand Slam Champion’, Ospreay tweeted:

This match will be very special.

I will be paying homage to a wrestler that largely impacted my career, to show my appreciation for his contribution & sacrifice.

As long as the referees don’t screw me this win will make me the “ultimate grand slam” champ.

While Hiroshi Tanahashi and Jay White are both considered NJPW Grand Slam Champions, after holding IWGP Heavyweight, US, Intercontinental and NEVER Openweight gold, Ospreay has held all these titles (apart from the US Championship), as well as the Junior Heavyweight Title, the New Japan Cup and the Best of the Super Juniors trophy.

In response to Ospreay stating that he plans to pay homage to a wrestler who has inspired his career, Kenny Omega tweeted:

You’re making it way too obvious, but thanks, I guess. ?‍♂️

Teasing a clash with The Cleaner, Ospreay simply replied:

You gonna be alright for June ?

Ospreay and Omega have traded shots online in the past, with the two stars notably going back and forth last September over their PWI 500 rankings.

Omega has been out of action since Full Gear 2021 in November, and has been undergoing multiple surgeries during his AEW hiatus.

A recent report provided an update on the likelihood of an Omega return ahead of Double or Nothing and Forbidden Door, which you can read more about right here.
