Will Ospreay is set to return to PROGRESS and TNT Extreme Wrestling.
Over the past few years, Will Ospreay has become one of the most decorated and successful singles wrestlers in the world. He is a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion and IWGP United States Champion.
Before making his name as a top guy in NJPW, Ospreay made a name for himself on the UK independent scene with his tag team partner Paul Robinson as The Swords of Essex.
On May 7, PROGRESS announced that Ospreay and Robinson are making their return to PROGRESS and TNT Extreme Wrestling following a “comprehensive investigation.” On their website, PROGRESS sent out the following statement:
Will Ospreay and Paul Robinson, also known as the Swords of Essex, will be returning to PROGRESS Wrestling and TNT Extreme Wrestling.
After a comprehensive investigation in which both talent complied with all requests and after taking on board all feedback internally, both TNT Extreme Wrestling and PROGRESS Wrestling now look forward to welcoming back both talent as a team or as individuals to each respective promotion.
The Swords of Essex were both involved in some controversies. PROGRESS announced that they were parting ways with Paul Robinson in 2021 after he had previously been named in the #SpeakingOut movement.
At the time, Robinson had posted a statement in response to the allegations.
Meanwhile, Ospreay has not wrestled for PROGRESS since 2019. He is a former PROGRESS Champion and former PROGRESS Tag Team Champion alongside Robinson.
Will Ospreay will make his return to his home promotion of New Japan Pro Wrestling at their upcoming NJPW Resurgence event on May 21 in Long Beach where he will face Hiroshi Tanahashi in Round One of the IWGP United States Championship tournament. After all the years we’ve been away, I’m so happy I can put aside any of the issues with PROGRESS & thanks to Lee, Martyn, Jay & all the Roster & Staff for their support in bringing us back.
I cannot wait for myself & Paul Robinson to return to TNT & PROGRESS
