Will Ospreay Pitches For Rising AEW Star To Join United Empire AEW

IWGP United States Champion Will Ospreay has pitched for a rising AEW star to join his United Empire faction.

Ospreay formed United Empire after he betrayed Kazuchika Okada and CHAOS back in October 2020.

The group consists of Ospreay, Great-O-Khan, Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher of Aussie Open, Jeff Cobb, Gideon Gray, Akira Francesco and TJP.

The group has acquired a lot of gold during its time, with Ospreay reigning as the current IWGP United States Champion, Francesco and TJP reigning as the current IWGP Junior Tag Team Champions, Aussie Open formerly reigning as the inaugural NJPW Strong Openweight Tag Team Champions, and Great-O-Khan and Cobb formerly reigning as the IWGP Tag Team Champions.

Ospreay sat down with Wrestle Inn on A Drink At The Inn, where he spoke about the members of the United Empire, and how he thinks there’s nothing more that he could add to the group.

Ospreay then named one star that he would consider adding to the group; AEW star HOOK.

He said:

“I can’t think of anyone better to bring in [to United Empire] right now, maybe HOOK, that’s it.

“Taz & me got along good. I saw those two talking backstage and I went ‘When’s your boy coming over to Japan?’. HOOK’s face was like, a mixture of fear of coming over to Japan and having me look after him. Any of the night out stories where Will Ospreay has taken people out to Roppongi, and they’ve maybe not come back the same person. However, they might have become a bit of a better wrestler.

“It was like very complimentary, I love that guy, I love HOOK, I love the aura about him so I’d love to put him in, it would be jokes to have him a part of it, so if he wants in.”

Will Ospreay retained the IWGP United States Championship against Tetsuya Naito at the NJPW Battle Autumn event on November 5.

The match was rated five stars by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
