William Regal ‘Couldn’t Be Prouder’ About WrestleMania 39 Match WWE

William Regal has commented on the Intercontinental Title match set for WrestleMania 39 Sunday, noting that he couldn’t be prouder of the competitors involved.

At the April 2 show, GUNTHER will defend his gold against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus in a three-way bout.

It has been pointed out by @WWEStats on Twitter that this will be the first Intercontinental Championship match to take place at a WrestleMania featuring no American stars since 1992.

The only other IC Title match at WrestleMania in which all competitors were not born in the United States took place at WrestleMania 8, when Bret Hart defeated Roddy Piper for the gold.

William Regal has now commented on the European influence set for the show, writing:

“Whether it be talent from Europe or people trained or influenced by talent from Europe, Europeans have shaped this industry worldwide. Tonight, it continues. Couldn’t be any prouder.”

GUNTHER is notably Austrian, Sheamus was born in Ireland, and McIntyre hails from Scotland.

Ahead of WrestleMania 39, GUNTHER passed an insane milestone, becoming the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion since the Honky Tonk Man’s record reign which began in 1987.
