WOW (Women of Wrestling) announced their relaunch last week, which was notable due to the return of AJ Mendez (Lee) to wrestling. The relaunch also received some immediate controversy, when it was announced that Tessa Blanchard would be the focal point of their company.
The controversy around Blanchard’s signing is due to an alleged incident involving fellow wrestler La Rosa Negra, which people around it claim saw Tessa spit on La Rosa Negra and call her a racial slur.
Fightful Select (subscription required) is reporting that two pitches were made to get Blanchard and Rosa Negra together, with one being on screen and one being off-screen. The first pitch, which was made to Blanchard by the NWA back in the summer, was to get Tessa and Rosa Negra together in private to work out their issues. It is not known if this pitch made it to La Rosa Negra.
The second pitch, made earlier this year from WOW, was for La Rosa Negra to work for WOW, with her and Tessa appearing on-screen together in some capacity. It was not specified if this was to be on the actual show, social media, or somewhere else, but Fightful was told things it could have included things like ‘an apology’ or ‘easing tensions’.
Sources close to La Rosa Negra say she was ‘insulted’ by the offer.
