Latest On WWE Plans For WrestleMania 39 Night 1 Main Event WWE

Here’s the latest update on WWE backstage plans regarding the main event of the first night of WrestleMania 39.

This year’s Show of Shows will emanate from California’s SoFi Stadium on Saturday and Sunday (April 1 and 2).

The April 2 show will be headlined by a huge title match, with Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes slated to challenge for Roman Reigns’ WWE Undisputed Universal Championship.

The main event of the April 1 card is still unclear, with some fans calling for the WWE Tag Team Championship bout to headline, and other believing that the SmackDown Women’s Title bout will go on last.

Per Fightful Select (subscription required), those they spoke to within the company believe that the tag title match will be officially made the main event of night 1. It was also noted that the belief is that WWE will finalize Saturday’s main event during that morning’s production meeting.

WWE sources have reportedly indicated that as of Friday (March 31), Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley have not been told that their match will headline.  It was noted however that it was believed that those involved with the tag title bout have been made aware of this match’s position on the. card, for preparation purposes.

Fightful noted that those internally had discussed having the SmackDown Women’s Title bout headline, because a women’s match didn’t main event either of the nights of WrestleMania 38 last year.

It has also reportedly been noted that the tag titles have never headlined WrestleMania, nore has a wrestler of Syrian descent.

In an interview that went live on Friday, Sami Zayn stated that he did not know whether he was officially in the main event spot.

Zayn will team with Kevin Owens to challenge for the Usos WWE Tag Team Championship. Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley will be challenging Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Title.

We will continue to provide updates on the situation as they become available.
