WrestleMania is and will probably always be the biggest pro-wrestling show of the year, and is certainly WWE’s biggest show in terms of fan interest and mainstream media coverage.
However, while this is the case, it is apparently no longer the biggest money spinner for Vince McMahon now that WWE has begun working with Saudi Arabia.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the Saudi shows are the biggest earner by a “wide margin”.
“Between the change from network to PPV and the ridiculous money involved, even though Mania is promoted as the biggest show of the year, the two Saudi shows are, by a wide margin, the two biggest money events of the year for the company.”
For the entire year of 2018, the revenue generated from the partnership with Saudi Arabia is likely in the $70 – $80 million range. WWE are set to go back to Saudi Arabia in May and November 2019.
What is good news in terms of pure money for WWE is that WrestleMania is now sold out, with only around 3,000 tickets left on the secondary market. The show is expected to draw 77,000 fans, meaning WWE will likely announce around 90,000.
Raw and NXT TakeOver: New York are also sold out.
