Huge WrestleMania 39 Pitch To Steve Austin Revealed

Huge WrestleMania 39 Pitch To Steve Austin Revealed WWE

At last year’s WrestleMania event in Dallas, Stone Cold Steve Austin made his return to a wrestling ring for the first time in 19 years.

Austin defeated Kevin Owens in an impromptu match in the main event of the show’s first night.

With Austin impressing those within the company, there has been speculation about him wrestling again at this year’s event.

It seems as though those within WWE are also hoping to have Austin for this year’s show too, and at least one major pitch has been made for him.

Fightful Select (subscription required) is reporting that an internal pitch was made in WWE for a ‘huge opponent’ for Steve Austin, and was told that the opponent was Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

The report notes that Austin’s camp were at least approached with the possibility of the match happening for what was said to have been ‘enormous’ money.

Last Summer, Fightful also reported that Austin was approached with a deal that wasn’t as appealing from a financial standpoint, but those in WWE claimed to Fightful that they hadn’t hear back on if the more recent offer to him was accepted.

One of the sources indicated that another ‘big name’ was offered to Austin in the prior months.

In December, WrestlingNews.co reported that the championship matches slated for WrestleMania 39 were Drew McIntyre/Cody Rhodes vs Seth Rollins on night one, and TBD/Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns on night two.

It is not known if or how the two reported matches have changed.

With rumours that The Rock will not be coming back for a match at WrestleMania against Roman Reigns, there are more potential opponents on the table for the Tribal Chief.
