The pro wrestling world is paying tribute to Jay Briscoe following the announcement of his passing.
AEW and Ring of Honor President Tony Khan broke the news that current and 13-time ROH World Tag Team Champion Jay Briscoe passed away at the age of 38.
Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer later tweeted that Briscoe passed away following an auto mobile accident with one person dying as well.
The wrestling world has responded to this tragic news with touching tributes to their fallen friend and colleague.
During tonight’s WWE NXT, commentator Vic Joseph sent condolences to the family of Jay Briscoe following his passing.
AEW star and one half of FTR, Cash Wheeler tweeted his initial reaction to the tragedy, writing:
“I’ve been in tears since I heard the news. I just don’t have the words. Rest in Peace Jay.”
FTR’s Dax Harwood later posted a photo on Twitter with he and Cash Wheeler drinking a beer with The Briscoes following ROH Final Battle 2022. He wrote:
“I’m doing ok. Thanks everyone for checking on me. I love you, Jay.”
The Briscoes and FTR put on a critically acclaimed trilogy of matches in 2022 over the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships. Jay and Mark Briscoe defeated Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler in a Double Dog Collar match to claim their 13th reign with the titles.
WWE star Cody Rhodes took to Twitter and wrote the following:
“I didn’t interact much with him, but upon meeting Jay I instantly understood something about him…his family was his everything. All the love in the world to them this evening.”
Cody’s former Elite stablemates The Young Bucks changed their background photo on their Twitter account to a picture of the former two-time ROH World Champion.
The Young Bucks were one of the career rivals of The Briscoes during their run in Ring of Honor.
Long-time ROH commentator Ian Riccaboni tweeted the following:
“Jay was one of a kind.
I traveled often with Jay and Mark. We couldn’t have been more different but that’s what made our friendship something I’ll cherish forever.
He’d give you the shirt off his back, his last dime. He was so proud of his kids. Loved his family so much.”
ROH Founder Cary Silkin took to Twitter and posted a photo of himself with Briscoe. He wrote:
“I lost one of my kids and the world lost a great man! RIP!”

As a long-time fan of ROH, I also paid tribute to Jay Briscoe with a photo taken on the night after his first ROH World Title win, which you can see below.
We here at WrestleTalk would like to send our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Jay Briscoe once again.

This was the night after he won the ROH World Title.
Watching him defeat Kevin Owens at Supercard of Honor 2013 is one of my favorite memories being live at a wrestling event ever.
Condolences to his family. https://t.co/iMxbiAa6VR pic.twitter.com/seh9SQUJWF
