How Long WWE’s AAA Acquisition Was In The Works Revealed WWE

An update has emerged on the timeline for WWE’s acquisition of AAA, following previous interactions between the two companies.

WWE announced its acquisition of AAA during the WrestleMania 41 Night 1 pre-show. WWE didn’t waste any time initiating a talent crossover, announcing a Worlds Collide crossover event for June 7, and introducing El Hijo Del Vikingo to fans during WrestleMania.

Dave Meltzer has revealed roughly how long this acquisition has been in the works for, noting on Wrestling Observer Radio that it has been “brewing for well over a year.”

Meltzer also reports that there wasn’t a strong indication that WWE was set to buy AAA when Dragon Lee announced his WWE signing on an AAA show in December 2022.

Meltzer said:

“They’ve had runs with WWE, but never gotten a deal done. There have been talks that would’ve involved WWE in control of AAA for a while.

“I wouldn’t say it was strong at the time when they did the Dragon Lee thing… At that point, I don’t think there was so much of the idea that they were going to buy the company.

“It’s been something that’s been brewing for well over a year.”
