WWE AAA Mega Championship Match Confirmed For TripleMania 34 Night Two

WWE has confirmed a AAA Mega Championship match will take place on night two of TripleMania 34 this coming September.

TripleMania will be a two-night and two-location event, with night one taking place in Las Vegas on September 11, and night two taking place in Mexico City on September 13.

During tonight’s WWE AAA episode, General Manager Rey Mysterio made an announcement regarding the event.

Mysterio confirmed the AAA Mega Champion when we get to TripleMania will defend the title on night two in Mexico.

Dominik Mysterio is the current Mega Champion after winning the title from El Hijo Del Vikingo at Worlds Collide last September.

El Grande Americano is owed a Mega Championship match after he won the Rey De Reyes tournament a few weeks ago, so as things stand, Dominik Mysterio vs El Grande Americano is the most likely title match for TripleMania night two.

WWE AAA – The New NXT Black & Gold?

WWE AAA had been quietly gaining some popularity in recent months, with the in-ring product making it one of the superior products under the WWE umbrella.

However, with it airing on YouTube and not being a mainline show in the US, its audience was somewhat limited.

That changed with the El Grande Americano mask vs mask match last week, the incredible reception it got, and how much WWE pushed it in the week that followed.

With more eyes on it than there have been since WWE took the brand over, AAA could grow into something similar to the NXT black and gold of the late 2010s.

Current NXT is simply a completely different product to that era of NXT which makes it incomparable, but AAA’s focus on the in-ring action makes it a lot closer to the NXT that hosted matches like Johnny Gargano vs Andrade, Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa, Ilja Dragunov vs WALTER/GUNTHER, etc.

Of course there’s a slight difference with the lucha style, but even that isn’t too far off the in-ring style of those days of NXT compared to the difference between them and the main roster product.

As the number of eyes on it continues to grow, AAA could essentially become the new NXT black and gold.
