Some “key figures” within WWE creative reportedly “absolutely hated” the direction of a match that took place on SmackDown tonight.
Tonight’s September 6 SmackDown played host to the in-ring return of Giovanni Vinci, and after the buildup it had received, many fans were left disappointed.
Vinci, who returned with a gimmick similar to his NXT 2.0 days but without some of the unique features such as the ‘Veni’ ‘Vidi’ ‘Vinci’ camera flashes in the entrance, and underwhelming new theme music, was unsuccessful in his return match.
Instead, he was beaten in a matter of seconds by Apollo Crews, who rolled Vinci up with a crucifix pin instantly after the opening bell.
With fans criticizing Vinci’s quick loss, it seems that people within the company aren’t happy either, as some ‘key’ figures within creative were also disappointed by the direction of the return match.

There was no follow-up with Vinci on SmackDown itself, but WWE did post an interview with him after the show, which you can see here.
This is the final episode of SmackDown on Fox before the show moves to USA Network next week, with a big Cody Rhodes vs Solo Sikoa steel cage match headlining.
